Govt introduces new home buying measures
10 December 2008 16:50
The government has unveiled a package of new measures designed to improve information in the home buying process.
Changes to Home Information Packs (HIPs) include the new Property Information Questionnaire, which provides detailed facts on a home, allowing potential buyers to decide whether to arrange a viewing.
Other helpful content in HIPs now includes whether a property is potentially at danger of flooding, structural damage, electrical safety and parking arrangements.
Margaret Beckett, housing minister, said that HIPs are an important service to individuals looking to purchase a home, with the new changes ensuring consumers are better protected when buying a property.
She added that it was vital that buyers saw a HIP at the first available moment to make sure they were getting all the information they needed.
According to the government, the use of HIPs has helped over one million homes achieve an energy rating, allowing owners to save money on bills and reduce emissions.
