Green plumbing attracts buyers

9 May 2008 12:37

Britain's professional body for plumbing and heating has stated that eco-friendly developments in these areas can make a property more attractive to homebuyers.

According to recent research by the Sponge Sustainability Network, over half of all Britons would pay more to live in an environmentally friendly property and nine out of ten felt new homes should come with the option of sustainable features.

Now Danny Davis from the Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering has asserted that energy aware homebuyers would indeed choose a property offering energy and water conservation technologies over one that did not.

Yet while he noted that green-minded consumers are already aware of the benefits that improvements to heating and plumbing can have, he warned them not to try and make these enhancements themselves, but to use a professional instead.

Since April 2005, all boilers installed in the UK have been required by law to incorporate condensing technologies that enable them to convert at least ten per cent more fuel into heat.
