December 2016 was the best month for mortgages in the United Kingdom since 2008. With high numbers of approved mortgages the UK saw more than 30% more approvals in December of 2016 as compared to the year prior. This high level of consumer and business borrowing may not continue as a trend in 2017 as there are some early indications that the market might experience a lull due to the anticipation of higher interest rates.
