One in 10 adults owns second home, says think tank – BBC News

While the number of homeowners in the UK who own more than one home has risen, the number of actual property owners has decreased. Most of these property owners who have multiple properties are from the baby boomer generation and have either purchased or inherited these properties. The government has tried to increase the stamp duty as well as tax rate on those who are wealthy enough to purchase a second home to try to decrease a gap between the wealthy who own multiple properties and people who do not have as much money who cannot get on the property ladder. However, most experts agree more needs to be done.
