We've selected The Relief Fund for a number of reasons.
They are a small hardworking outfit who achieve a huge amount for the children, sick and elderly in Romania on a modest budget.
What really attracted us to helping them was that they are fully accountable. They were one of only 5 out of thousands of UK charities to have made themselves readily available for an independent examination of their work by the Accrediting Bureau of Fundraising Organisations.
We were surprised at how few charities seem to be prepared to have outsiders taking a look at their inner workings.
As well as being an early supporter of this much needed initiative the Relief Fund also became the first UK charity to be awarded ABFOs Seal of Approval.
Besides this, they get excellent results from the money they spend in Romania and - unlike many foreign charities working there - have a very good reputation.
We'd urge you to give them a helping hand by spending a very short while giving a credit card donation.
You can leave as small or as large a donation as you like. Anything from 50p upwards! Go on how about £2?!!

The Accrediting Bureau of Fundraising Organisations is an initiative by an ex Director of the Consumers Association and various leading lights in the charity world who became concerned by the decrease in public confidence in charitys.
The
UK is the only western country not to have an accrediting body so
the idea was to start one to provide a fairly straightforward look
into whether a charity was spending funds reasonably efficiently
and effectively.
It seems that almost anyone can form a charity. The Charity Commission
simply registers charities and there doesn't seem to be much discrimination
as to why charitable status is given to applicants. However the
public assumes that because registered charity status has been awarded
that some type of checks have been done.
While this confusion is understandable this is not the case. Apparently criminals see registering charities to commit frauds as being one of the easiest scams around.
In most other countries charities come under the tax authorities. These tend to have a more business like approach than the Charity Commission.
Sadly the UK charity business seemed to turn its back on ABFO's initiative and 3 years down the line the Relief Fund for Romania remains the only UK charity to have gained a Seal of Approval.
