However, if you don't feel confident about standing up to your
provider, don't be put off.
There
are plenty of sources of help to make a mis-selling claim.
Contact a consumer group
Several consumer groups, including the highly respected Which?
(formerly the Consumers Association) have joined the fight for
justice on endowment mis-selling.
A Google search will take you to their websites, where you can
find help and support.
Many,
including Which?, also provide templates of letters used successfully
by other claimants.
Simply download these, adjust the one you need to suit your particular
circumstances, print it out and send it off.
Go to a claims handler
If, even with this kind of support, you don't feel able to go
it alone, consider using a professional endowment mis-selling
claims handler.
Again, you'll have no trouble finding these on the internet.
These
companies will consider your claim and if they think it has a
chance of success, they'll act on your behalf.
However, their services aren't cheap.
Most operate on a no-win, no-fee basis which means if your claim
fails, you don't have to pay them anything.
But if it does succeed, they generally take a percentage of the
compensation you receive.
Their
share could be as much as a third.
This cash was designed to make up your shortfall lose part of
it to a claims handler and you will have to find some other way
of plugging the gap.
And
remember no matter what they tell you there is nothing they can
do that you can't do yourself just as effectively for free.
Of course, if you really don't fancy the do-it-yourself method,
you may feel that getting something is better than getting nothing.
In which case, choose your handler with care and make sure you're
clear on the potential costs before you sign up for its service.
